Our Teachers

Nikolas Landry is an award winning classical guitarist and composer who holds an honors diploma in Guitar Performance as well as a scholar’s certificate in Independent Music Production from Cambrian College. He started his post secondary career in 2015 at the Cambrian College school of Music under the tutelage of Dr. Matthew Gould, a decorated classical guitarist and guitar teacher. 

During Nik’s time at the college he had the opportunity to hone his performance skills by participating in many fundraising performances, professional concerts, competitions, and masterclasses. Some of the notable masterclasses in which Nik participated include Xavier Jara, Thibeault Garcia, Jakob Bangsø, Solo Duo, and the Montenegrin Guitar Duo. 

Furthermore, Nikolas was awarded “Top Performer/Best Performance'' and “Top Guitarist” during Cambrian College’s annual 2018 senior awards competition. He was also top of his class in music theory. In 2017 and 2018, Nikolas was nominated for the Ontario Music Festivals Association’s (OMFA) provincials competition for grade eight RCM Guitar (2017) and grade nine RCM Guitar (2018) in which he received first prize both years. 

Nikolas continued his development at the University of Ottawa, where he studied under Louis Trépanier of the Canadian Guitar Quartet. A dedicated educator, Nikolas has been teaching guitar for over a decade, specializing in high-level classical guitar pedagogy . He utilizes the Royal Conservatory, Aaron Shearer, Giuliani, and Sagreras methods to provide rigorous professional tutelage. While his primary expertise is in the classical tradition, he also offers instruction across multiple genres for students of all ages.

Sofia Fernandes holds a Masters in Guitar Performance from the University of Ottawa where she studied under guitarist and composer Patrick Roux. She has also completed a Bachelor of Music at the University of Toronto, where she studied with acclaimed guitarist Rob MacDonald. 

During Sofia’s post-secondary career she attended and participated in various masterclasses by renowned guitarists from around the world including Ben Verdery, Steve Cowan, Ricardo Gallén, David Russell, Berta Rojas, Solo Duo, Carlo Marchione, Pavel Steidl and many others. Each of these masterclasses have brought valuable lessons and experiences. Sofia has participated in music festivals in Portugal, Spain and Canada and has been a first place award winner at the OMFA North York and Peel Music Festivals in Ontario. 

Sofia has been teaching guitar for over ten years and has experience teaching music privately as well as in a classroom setting. She has completed her Suzuki ECC with Jane Reed and Suzuki unit 1 with MaryLou Roberts, and has been teaching the Suzuki method since 2023. Sofia's students have participated in studio recitals, community concerts, and performances at the NAC in Ottawa. Some of Sofia's students have also won first place at the 2026 OMFA provincial level competition. Sofia has also been an adjudicator at IV Concurso Nacional de Guitarra in Portugal.
